How to Choose an Outdoor Activity in Furano

Furano is famous for lavender, but it is a town you can enjoy the outdoors in all year round. "Activity" covers a lot of ground, though. Here's how we'd think it through if we were choosing a nature experience in Furano.

Start with who you're travelling with

Before you look at what an activity involves, decide who you're going with and what kind of time you want to spend together.

With family — the first question is whether everyone can take part comfortably. Age requirements differ from one experience to the next, so if you're bringing children, ask before you book.

Mix looking at the landscape with getting into it

The classic Furano itinerary is about looking: flower fields, hillsides, viewpoints. Add one experience that takes you into the landscape instead, and the trip stays with you differently.

On a downriver trip, for instance, you see the scenery from water level, and you hear the current and smell the forest as you go. It's a Furano no observation deck will show you.

With nature-based activities, whether a trip runs depends on the weather and the state of the river. A few things worth keeping in mind:

Most experiences require advance booking, so get in touch as soon as your dates are set.
Check the meeting point, the duration and what to bring in the details you're sent when you book.
