HOO's projects
Running activities alone won't protect the future of these rivers or the communities around them. HOO works on three fronts to look after Hokkaido's waterways and the places they run through.
Project 01 — RIVER MANAGEMENT
River management and conservation
Rivers hold up both everyday life in the community and the outdoor experiences we offer. HOO doesn't just use the water: we look after it, taking on the management and conservation of the riverside.
A point of contact for waterfront use
We field enquiries about using the waterfront and act as a bridge between the community, users and local government.
Clear guidelines for use
We work on plain, usable guidelines so that everyone can enjoy the water with confidence.
Maintenance and operation of facilities
We maintain and operate riverside equipment and facilities, keeping the environment safe and comfortable.
Project 02 — COMMUNITY SPACE
Places to relax and meet
The waterfront isn't only for activities. Creating places where local people and visitors naturally gather and settle in is a real part of HOO's work.
Planning and coordinating local events
We plan and coordinate community events on the water's edge, giving people a reason to come together.
Listening to local voices
We take the time to hear what local residents want, and let that shape what we build.
Working with nearby attractions
We partner with nearby attractions and businesses to open up new ways to enjoy the waterfront.
Project 03 — REGIONAL TOURISM
Tourism and the local economy
Outdoor experiences bring people to a region and put money into it. HOO's work doesn't stop at running trips: we work to strengthen local tourism and the economy around it.
Promoting and selling local products
By promoting and selling products that carry the character of the region, we help keep value circulating locally.
Developing people who will carry the region forward
We invest in the people who will shape the region's future, so that growth here can last.
