Why HOO

Guides who know the water, rivers worth taking your time on.

Over 20 years as an outdoor guide

Your guide has worked rivers across Japan, from the Yoshino River in Shikoku to the Tone River in Gunma and the Mu River in Hokkaido.

Hokkaido Governor-certified Outdoor Guide

Certified for rafting and canoe, and building programs on a deep familiarity with Hokkaido's rivers.

Rescue3 SRT-1 and Advanced First Aid

Specialist qualifications in swiftwater rescue and life saving underpin how we run every trip.

Rooted in Hokkaido's nature and communities

We also work on river management, conservation and local development, alongside the communities we belong to.

Small groups welcome

Bookings start from 2 people. If you're unsure about numbers or content, just ask.

Safety

Our approach to safety

Because nature sets the terms, we would rather call it off than push our luck.

A briefing before you start

Your guide runs through how the day will go and what to watch for, so first-timers can clear up any questions before setting off.

Equipment and how the day runs

We explain the equipment you'll need and how the day works when you book and again on the day. Ask us anything in advance.

An experienced guide with you

A guide with real river experience goes with you, reading the conditions as the trip unfolds.

Decisions based on weather and river conditions

Your guide decides whether to run the trip, and in what form, based on the weather and the state of the river. We never force a trip through.

What we ask of you

So that everyone can enjoy the day safely, we ask you to follow your guide's instructions on the water.

Health concerns: talk to us first

If you have a medical condition or any concern about your health, get in touch before you book and we'll advise you.
